I had taken a glass workshop from Diane Proulx and this had to be one of my best investments. Leaving her studio gave me a feeling of total relaxation and fulfillment. I never did much more glass work after taking this class until 2007 when I was inspired to get back to working with glass.
I took off with some pictures of my work to see Diane who is the Artistic Director at Out of Ruins. Her means of salvaging items destined for landfill sites and recycling certainly made an impression on me. Being the pioneer in her form of art, she was an inspiration to me and I decided to help clean up the environment, also. I picked up a few more pointers and Diane said to me, “You don’t need more instructions here, continue your work but go take a fusion course.” I did not have a clue what she was talking about but knew if she said, “Do it,” it was for a good reason.
Diane told me to go see Kevin Tappin at Stained Glass Stuff. I enrolled in a glass fusion course for beginners and was more than surprised at what I learned.
As with my silk work, I had to come up with a style of my own.
Taking the knowledge I learned from Kevin and Diane and incorporating my ideas, I developed a personal style of my own.
I was told that my magic lectures were taken to another level, well, after getting some expertise from Kevin, I think I have taken “frit” to a new level.
